In Spain, this legislation has been incorporated into standards EN 81-20 and EN 81-50, which have been mandatory<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>since 1 September 2017 for all new lifts<\/strong>, replacing the old 1998 regulations.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><em>The new lift standards set requirements for the shaft walls, floor and ceiling. Safety and materials are improved. Inspections are stricter. In short, the regulations have changed considerably.<\/em><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The new standards provide a<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>more detailed and demanding definition of the requirements the shaft walls, floor and ceiling must meet<\/strong>;<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>the safety features<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>of lift cars, and they also affect, for example, the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>glass<\/strong>,<span>\u00a0<\/span>which must be<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>laminated<\/strong>. The new standards will improve safety by incorporating technological advances in both manufacturing and commissioning, as well as rules for the design, calculation, inspection and testing of lift components. In the interests of greater safety,<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>the inspections and tests used to check them are becoming stricter<\/strong>. Specifically, some of the new features are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Requirements concerning<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>unintended car movement<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>and overspeed in the upward direction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Door safety<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>(photosensitive anti-closing sensor).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Car door locking<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>(preventing the doors from opening when the lift is not at a floor)<\/li>\n<li>Car<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>materials<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>specifically made<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>to resist fire<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rigidity<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>of the car walls and of the car and landing doors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lighting<\/strong> of the car and shaft.<\/li>\n<li>Improvements in<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>safety<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>of all kinds<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>for maintenance technicians<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Therefore, all lifts installed and legalised from now on (and previously, provided it was after 31 August 2017) <span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>must comply with the new regulations, and from that date it will not be possible to legalise any installation under the previous regulations.<\/strong><\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243;
